It is the visceral aspect of Jozsef's drawings that is most obvious, but these are not straight anatomical studies. Taken from the artist's memories and imagination, they bring to mind works by Blake and Dali, containing half-hidden or suggested figures and gestures that lend the drawings a very human and emotional quality.

For me, painting is about feeling - emotion, memory, balance, movement and touch.
I am interested in colour, drawing, the illusion of space and the design of the picture surface. Most of my paintings are based on places that I know well - places that I see every day, places I have lived, and places that I remember from my childhood.
My recent paintings are based on places near my home in Headingley, and places that I pass every day. I also try to find connections in my paintings between these places and places I have lived before - Falmouth in Cornwall and the Chilterns.
