My abstract paintings are based on a psychological response to landscape, colour and emotions. My sense of colour is developed from fleeting memories of landscape, my surroundings and the emotions that colours create within me.
My work is essentially led by the intuitive feel I have for colour, and the space that colour implies. I work mainly in acrylics, starting with base coats of luminous colour.
I like the idea of the raw, barely touched canvas breaking through; to create pockets of light or luminous colour that is encased or blocked in by opaque sometimes textured paint. I like to try to leave a journey or pathway through the painting to the original canvas block.
